As there is no current occupation (see ‘About’ for more info there) we do not have any current camp phones.
However, we are still working very hard in town and around Southern Ontario to make sure that this development does not happen – you can e mail us at hcbpoccupation@gmail.com

While I admire what you are doing, I cannot help but wonder if it is possible to completely stop the development? Having seen these kinds of fights before ultimately end in development (Mill Pond in Hespeler is a good example), would it not be worthwhile to try to ensure the city develops the site in a truly sustainable way? Cambridge is currently planning Boxwood, a business park employing the latest environmental technologies targeted to attract eco businesses. Could this site not be planned in a similar manner allowing to meet the needs of the city, while protecting the wildlife and keeping nature as intact as possible. Perhaps I am just a dreamer…
Good luck and thank you for standing up in what you believe in and protecting what is right.
Hello,
From a friend in Hamilton and Red Hill veteran. I wish you all the best in your fight.
A suggestion – the first page of the blog should have a short and to-the-point synopsis of the struggle, including what area is being threatened, why it should be preserved and what specifically you are demanding. This would greatly help any media or prospective supporters who visit the site looking for information.
In solidarity,
Kevin (from the Sky Dragon)
Namaste from another friend in hamilton and another redhill vetran and firekeeper.
Document with video, audio all that you can and backup and disperse.
Provacetuers will be sent in and may already be amongst you. one thing i would do different in the redhill if i could is this; i would be at all meetings , rather than take someones summary of said meeting…. Know we are with you …and will aid in anyway possible. Perhaps a facebook group so those of us there can circulate your cause…
godspeed by all its names brothers and sisters…to you and your worthy fight!
So far everyone I know supports the occupation, but many are cynical and have lost their faith of the government to protect these lands,
after all so much has been lost and there is much more at stake, soon many others will need more and more of our water here. We are much to careless and wasteful with our water and we are polluting more and more everyday.
If we don’t take a stand for what we believe in CLEAN NATURAL WATER, then we might not have it anymore. We need to set an example for other countries. We need to set an example to ourselves and our community to protect theses lands.
I want to see a stop of sprawl there’s too much wasted space already. Why not open a closed factory instead of ripping a habitat apart?
These people are mad!, pushing and abusing their power,
Hi, i’m wondering why you’re trying to stop the building of companies that will provide jobs and income for the City that you obviously so love? Why aren’t you trying to block any of the other “sprawls” that are quickly going up, even kms from where you’re located?
Did you ever think that the people who live in that community may not appreciate you giving directions out to people who obviously aren’t from the area? Maybe we who pay to live in Kortright Hills dont want to see this going on any longer?
well i can appreciate anyone standing up for what they believe in, i dont agree that we’re all being painted with the same brush.
Can you honestly tell me that you guys all sit on the site at night praying for the safety of some salamander that may or may not even exist there???
For anyone with enough energy, here is the City of Cambridge’s Boxwood Industrial Park Plan.
http://www.cambridge.ca/economic_development/boxwood_industrial_park_class_environmental_assessment
August 19, 2009 is the Request for Review closing date. So anyone that is energetically available should do their part to research the plan and take action if necessary.
Thank you, Sarah Otto, for mentioning this important site.
I started a facebook cause because there didn’t seem to be one. Please join:

Wish I could be there to support you!!!!
Hi folks,
thanks so much to those of you who were at the meeting last night in Hamilton, and to all those raging ‘gainst development out there! I have some pretty insane news, straight from the occupation.
The judge just granted the city their injunction… but also granted us ours! which means that no work can be done on the land for the next 30 days (’til september 13th, just before the MNR deadline)…
so the occupation has to leave (folks can’t stay out there any longer past tomorrow), but no work will be done on the land for a month!
what?! super amazing, crazy. mixed feelings, having won a battle through the legal system…
it doesn’t mean the work is over, it just means there’s less risk and more time to mobilize. I’ll still put our suggestions forward to folks at the occupation and see what will be useful in the coming month (legal donations and benefit shows definitely still are).
but that means the drop off on saturday isn’t really necessary, because as of tomorrow no one will be living on site anymore.
yep. I imagine the blog (www.hcbpoccupation.wordpress.com) will be updated soon, and I’ll keep you all posted. Thanks again for your thoughts and help!
love and rage,
marya

Just to be clear about the last post, please read the posts regarding the injunction to clarify a few details. Thanks!
i think the issue itself is pretty simple, and with that being said, i find it interesting that certain ignorart individuals still keep bringing up invalid points with repects to this whole fiasco, let me break it down for you:
a) this “business park” first and foremost, is compromising the ecological integrity of the area itself. Regardless of the promise not to erect automotive factories, fabrication plants and blah blah is still nontheless an ultimate disruption of the land.
b) there is solid evidence within the prospected building area of the presence of the Jefferson salamander , and any individual attempting to refute that fact is obviously an idiot.
c) Im pretty sure the majority of residents feel the same way about this issue, nobody wants to experience the detrimental effects that this construction project will surely bring , increased traffic, noise, and most importantly, the loss of an ecosystem and ‘country feel’ that this area holds.
Anyway, the whole thing is pretty ridiculous especially considering the fact that the Ministry of Natural Resources holds the power to stop the operation. Clearly the efforts to halt the entire project have been heavily supported by those in the surrounding area.
hi…
I am back in austria and I am just sitting in a lecture hall we occupied 3 weeks ago to protest against our educational system… in austria about 12 lecture halls at different universities are occupied… and in germany a lot more… that´s amazing!!!
I am with you in my thoughts… protesting by your side… for what I believe in, like you do…
I think it´s just great that there are ideas of a better world, all over the world… I hope to see you again… some day… :)
