Come celebrate this land with us! We are in our fifth full day of protecting this land with our bodies and our hearts. Everyone is welcome to a day of fun events that are intended to build community and to introduce people to Guelph’s old growth forest, the hanlon creek, and the beautiful land surrounding it.
Please note this is an alcohol and drug free event (with the exception of coffee and chocolate). Also, come with the understanding that we are committed to keeping this a safer space where people of all cultures, ages, and genders can feel comfortable being who they are.
3pm: Old Growth Forest tour concurrent with Edible & Medicinal Plant walk
Child-friendly events will be going on throughout the day, including face painting, scavenger hunts, and much much more! Children are definitely welcome.
4:30: Round 2 of forest tour and plant walk (so we’re not in too big a group at once)
6-8: Potluck! We have tons of food and will be offering a feast to everyone who comes. But please bring what you can to share as well and we can all fill our bellies. Please also bring your own dish and cutlery if you can.
8-?: Folk Show & Tell! Come hang out around the fire with us and listen to musicians and stories from a wide range of people. Share a song or a story you’d like to bring, and join the reverie and high spirits in this very sacred and powerful space.
Note: Technically we are ‘trespassing’, and thus subject to a ticketable offence (not a criminal offence in itself). We have skilled and competent police liasons and many thousands of eyes from all over North America watching this situation and adding pressure to the City to keep the Land Defenders on this site. There is a very calm and safe feel to the site and we are doing everything we possibly can to eliminate any risk of arrest for everyone. Especially on a day when many families are coming to check out the site, we can all feel safe together. We have power in numbers and it would be an extraordinarily bad public relations move for any elected officials for there to be any problems with police on the site. Come join us!
